Essentials at Thorncliffe House Project for the University of Manchester Recognised at Awards

We are proud to share that the Essentials at Thorncliffe House project for the University of Manchester has been recognised at the Estates and Facilities Outstanding Achievement Awards. The project received the Outstanding Impact on our Student Experience Award and was also Highly Commended for Small Project of the Year, highlighting the positive impact it is making for students.

Developed in response to student feedback on cost-of-living pressures, Essentials is a joint initiative between the University and Students’ Union. The project provides a practical, student-centred space that supports wellbeing, inclusivity and affordability, and is the first of its scale in the UK, inspired by successful models in the USA.

UDC was appointed to refurbish a previously disused building at Thorncliffe House, creating a welcoming student hub with communal areas, kitchen facilities, meeting rooms, and offices. The refurbishment revitalised the space both internally and externally, helping to bring this transformative initiative to life.

We are proud to have played a role in delivering a facility that directly responds to student needs, and would like to congratulate everyone involved in the project.
